Here's what's been on the homepage in previous months that doesn't fit on family pages. As this stuff gets older some links will most likely cease to work. If so. please let me know. x

Found Again !

When Pete and Sue were on their way back from New Zealand towards the end of last year, they had a "very boring twelve hours" to kill in Melbourne airport. Sue says, "Things got so desperate we resorted to reading the telephone directories looking for family names" (Having just been bumming around New Zealand like Gap-Year students it is difficult to believe that they couldn't find a bar ! )

Pete found Conrad listed in Perth, wrote him a letter, then and there and sent it to him along with a christmas card.

Conrad Grero's Family in Perth
L-R:Sharon (Conrad's wife), Andrew, Conrad and Adam.

Pete says Conrad Grero is his second cousin, the son of Phyliss and Bonnie Grero. Phyliss is the daughter of Abigail Serpanchy nee Rebera, grandad's sister. So Phyliss is Pete, Joan, Noel, Luke and Ron's cousin and Conrad and his sisters; Lynette and Desarie, are second cousins.

Pete remembers that Conrad and his sisters used to come back to 152 Galle Road (The Rebera family home in Sri Lanka) after nursery school to wait for their parents to pick them up and they were also at all the family parties.   Hello ! most recently found extended family. Please keep in touch.

A Free Range Future

Chicken Out! Campaign Sign-up

Did you watch the programs last week? What Hugh is trying to do is quite worthwhile. I think it's a good thing to know where our food comes from, to know that it has had a reasonable, if short life before it reaches our plates. So sign up and buy free range if your supermarket offers it and if it doesn't - then ask them to.

The Campaign has been pretty successful and you can read about it here.

Gifts that Count at Christmas

Don't wander aimlessly around busy streets and malls with crowds of others looking for inspiration. This is a really smart way to spend your cash this Christmas. Oxfam Unwrapped is a great way to help fight poverty and suffering.

How's this for inspiration...

Emergency Essentials £12 Helps out in an Emergency.
It’s gifts like this that ensure that Oxfam can respond to emergencies quickly and effectively, whenever and wherever they happen. You might not be there in body, but you will be helping to provide tents, taps, buckets and blankets and whatever is most needed to save lives.

Health & Care Heroes£15 Mosquito Nets in Africa.
There is one species that’s ‘all for’ a bit of global warming – and that’s the mosquito. They like it hot. But as it’s responsible for the most human deaths around the world, the last thing we need is more of them. A simple mosquito net, however, can stop a malaria-carrying mozzy in its tracks.

Working Wonders£20 Fishing Equipment.
It’s not all messing about in boats – although boats, nets and other gear are a big part of it. As well as the equipment, you’ll be helping to train communities in how to make a decent living – everything from working co-operatively to restock and maintain fisheries, through to getting the best price for their catch.

Gifts that Grow£24 Will Plant an Entire Allotment.
A great pressie for those people you know who are keen on vegging out – an allotment! It’s more than just a hobby in this case – this version will enable families and communities to feed themselves with a variety of lovely, nutritious veg. And they can sell any surplus to pay for anything from clothes to school fees.

Giving gifts at Christmas is lovely - why not make them really count this year.

Merry Christmas !

IT'S ALL NEW !!

Hello and welcome to your new " Barton ~ Rebera Family Website ! "

I hope you like the look of it and if you're using Firefox then you'll be seeing the site in its full glory.

If Internet Explorer 6 is your choice then your page looks rather ragged and you'll not see all the working features and Internet Explorer 7 cannot cope with the galleries and will flicker really annoyingly.

So, please consider downloading Firefox. (See FAQs for more info)

What's New On The Menu?

The menu items across the top of this page roll out to reveal more options when you pass your mouse over them. Have a look around. To begin with you will probably recognise a lot of the pictures but I'll be adding new ones to the galleries as they are sent to me.

Started in September, the Blog will be changing frequently and you are encouraged to add your news to it. I have now added to the blog a facility where you can 'subscribe' by email and be notified automatically whenever anything new is added. As family you will have already received an 'invitation to blog' with instructions but just ask me if you'd like that re-sent.

As this site is completely different and all new, I thought I'd add a page that aims to point out the important bits and seeks to help you navigate around the site. The FAQ section (Frequently Asked Questions) will grow and to start with has some good stuff on Browsers and how to get Firefoxed up which will improve your experience of the site.

Appears on the bottom menu at the foot of the page and on all other pages on the colourful menu. It's a collection of weblinks that I have compiled. They are sites that we use or visit regularly. Please send me your favourites and any that you find invaluable and I will put them here.

This is a brand new gadget and lets all visitors to the site 'chat' with one another. A bit of real time conversation. Perhaps we could arrange times to be online and catch up with one another or it might be quite a lonely place...

Clicking on this menu item takes you to a form where you can send me a message. Its an email form and comes only to me, it means you don't even have to find my email address; just put your news in the message box and hit send. Couldn't be more simple.

And as ever, any suggestions for other stuff you'd like to see here - just let me know.

Regards

Helen
